Read.Write.Act Conference

rwa_2013

Cosponsored by UNC Student Groups, MANO, and CLaP

What is the Read.Write.Act Conference?

Each year, SCALE hosts the Read.Write.Act Virtual Conference, which connects college students at campus based literacy groups, program administrators, higher education faculty, and non-profit professionals from around the country with content specialists, community-based literacy organizations and other leaders in literacy who are committed to creating a more just society by engaging young people in literacy education.

The Read.Write.Act. Conference is now in its 21st year! While originally the conference took place in Chapel Hill, NC, it has since become virtual to be able to better include literacy advocates, like you, across the country and the globe. This will be our 6th year of the virtual conference.

RWA 2013: Beyond the Classroom: Applying Literacy to Promote Equity

In this year’s Read.Write.Act Virtual Conference, we will be exploring how literacy can be applied to various social justice themes. As such, we are looking for presenters to discuss how literacy can move beyond the classroom and be applied to other issues to promote justice and equality across society. From health literacy, to financial literacy, to using literacy to promote women’s empowerment, the possibilities are endless!

As always, we also welcome and encourage proposals about specific teaching techniques, and we ask that presenters indicate how these techniques can have wider applications. For example, if discussing techniques for teaching ESL grammar, suggest ways to apply this to other issues through application and contextual-based activities. Literacy is everywhere- let’s explore its importance across society.

This year’s conference will be virtual on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2nd, 2013.

Call for Proposals

SCALE is currently accepting proposals for presentations and posters for the 2013 annual Read. Write. Act. conference. We are looking for presenters to discuss how literacy can move beyond the classroom and be applied to other issues to promote justice and equality across society.
Literacy is everywhere—let’s explore its importance across society!
