Dear SCALE Friends,
We are excited to share the news that we have recently received a challenge grant from the Thomas S. Kenan Foundation and the Four Feathers Fund. These two long-time SCALE supporters have agreed to match your gifts two-to-one – provided we can raise $10,000 by June 30!
So, we need your help!
Think, for every $10 you donate, $30 will help SCALE mobilize and support college students and campus-based programs to address the literacy needs of the U.S. Just this year we have worked with students and staff at 37 college campuses; reached 10,627 learners through SCALE programs and helped college students and AmeriCorps members provide 41,101 hours of service!
Your donation and the matching funds it secures will be used
- To provide free training scholarships and mini grants to students.
- To provide opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students to participate in national leadership events like Clinton Global Initiative University or the Impact Conference.
- To develop new projects and resources that help facilitate dynamic partnerships between campuses and communities to foster collaborative literacy learning environments.

Funding Priorities:
- Help us to provide training and support to college student leaders: Your gift of $10 will allow SCALE to us provide 3 individual training scholarships. $75 will provide scholarships for 3 students to attend unlimited trainings for one year. $250 will fund 3 unlimited training scholarships for the student organizations!
- Help us improve America Reads and Counts programs nationwide: For every $25 you give we will be able to provide a free copy of our America Reads tutor handbook to a campus programs!
- Help us support Campus Initiatives: Your gift of $150 will help SCALE offer 3 mini-grants to students to develop projects in their local community, travel to national events to learn and connect with student leaders and to advocate for literacy!
- Help us to provide resources and support to AmeriCorps NC LiteracyCorps members: AmeriCorps members are supporting local literacy councils around the state but many small, rural organizations can't afford to host a member. By giving $500, you can help defray the costs to allow more members to serve in remote parts of North Carolina.
- Help us to develop new programs and to support general opperations: Support SCALE staff to develop new partnerships, conduct needs assessments and research needed to develop training and program materials for new or expanded programs including, Highschool Writting programs, Finacial Literacy, Family Literacy and "Parents as Educators" programs, Service-Learning and Teacher Education and other potential campus based literacy programs.
