Read. Write. Act. National Conference
Week of February 2, 2009
Each year, the Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education (SCALE) hosts the National Read. Write. Act. Conference for campus-based literacy programs and their community partners. We value our gatherings of engaged and committed participants, but we also recognize that many of our constituents don't have travel budgets, and those that do have limited funds.
This year, in order to include more participants and to reduce our carbon footprint, we've decided to host our first ever *virtual* Read. Write. Act. Conference. What does that mean?
It means that you, your student leaders and co-leaders, your tutors and your community partners will have the opportunity to join invited experts in the field of literacy teaching and tutoring, service-learning, diversity, student leadership, social justice, and program management for a series of web conferences, online reflections, chats, and resource sharing designed to improve your program and to improve our sector in new and innovative ways.
It means that you will have access to archived workshops available via the web even if your schedule conflicts with virtual meeting times.
It means that multiple people and constituents on campus will have a high impact professional development opportunity with low impact on the environment.
It means that that people who can't afford to travel but who have great programs and knowledge to share can participate for the first time, and let us learn from them!
The online conference will take place during the week of February 2, 2009. As more details become available, we will post them to this web page.
